Whilst working on the ‘Contourism’ paintings, my mind, which seems to always be in ‘must be creative mode’, came up with a new concept. Instead of using raised contour lines to create three-dimensionality, why not create a similar effect without these lines? Why not use something similar to the contour lines, used in topographical mapping, to achieve an exciting new effect? But, instead of using the black pen lines to denote height from sea level, use colour changes and tonality to denote changes in shape and contour.
With this in mind, I began to create a series of studies. This time though, I decided to use female forms instead of flowers. This has now become the ‘Kiss’ Series.
